Verified pre-owned sailing yachts, motor yachts, catamarans and superyachts from vetted brokers across Spain, France, Italy, Croatia and Greece. Every listing verified, every broker vetted, full survey guidance, no lead-generation pay-walls.
The Mediterranean is the deepest pre-owned yacht market in the world, fed by charter-fleet turnover and a large resident owner base. Spain leads on volume, Italy and France on premium inventory. The map below reflects current verified used inventory across our broker network.
Most Mediterranean brokerage inventory is pre-owned, and for good reason: new yachts shed the steepest depreciation in their first three to five years. A lightly used yacht from a quality builder — with a recent refit and full service history — delivers most of the specification of a new boat at a meaningful discount. The depth of the market means selection is rarely the problem; condition and documentation are.
A significant share of used inventory is ex-charter, especially in Spain, Greece and Croatia. That is not disqualifying, but it reshapes the survey: engine hours, rig and sail age, and interior wear deserve disproportionate attention. The decisive variables across the whole used market are survey condition, service history, and a clean VAT and ownership trail.
An independent survey and sea trial are non-negotiable on any used yacht. A vetted broker shortlists sensibly, coordinates the survey, and negotiates on documented findings rather than asking price. Our buying guides set out the process country by country.

Indicative Mediterranean ranges for 2026. Age, builder, refit history and equipment drive value far more than length alone.
Budget 6 to 10 percent on top of the purchase price for survey, legal, registration and immediate post-purchase work. See our buying guide and VAT explainer.
Commission your own surveyor — never rely on the seller's. Hull integrity, structural condition, osmosis and a moisture survey are the foundation. Budget the haul-out and survey before you commit.
Engine hours and documented service intervals are the single biggest value driver. Missing records on an older yacht usually mean catch-up work. On sailing yachts, add rig and sail age to the list.
Demand documentary proof of VAT-paid status and a clean ownership chain. An unpaid VAT liability transfers with the vessel. Missing proof is grounds to walk or renegotiate.
Run the engines under load, test all systems, sail the boat if applicable. A sea trial reveals problems a static survey cannot — vibration, overheating, electronics faults and handling issues.
In the Mediterranean, used sailing yachts of 35 to 45 feet start around €60k to €200k; 45 to 55-foot cruisers run €150k to €500k. Used motor yachts of 40 to 60 feet span €150k to €1.5M. Used cruising catamarans start near €180k. Age, builder, refit history and equipment package drive value far more than length alone.
A used yacht is usually the stronger value. New yachts lose the steepest depreciation in their first three to five years, so a lightly used yacht from a quality builder with a recent refit and full service history offers most of the specification at a fraction of the new price. New builds win only when warranty, the latest systems or full customisation outweigh cost. For most buyers, a two to eight-year-old yacht is the sweet spot.
Always commission an independent survey and sea trial. Priorities are hull integrity, engine hours and service history, rig and sail age on sailing yachts, electronics age, and signs of deferred maintenance. Confirm VAT-paid status with documentary proof, verify the flag and registration, and budget 6 to 10 percent of the price for transaction costs and immediate post-purchase work.
Ex-charter yachts can be excellent value. They have been professionally maintained on a fixed schedule and usually carry a comprehensive equipment package. The trade-offs are high engine hours, heavier interior wear, and a charter-oriented layout. Survey priorities shift to engine compression, rig condition and systems wear. Budget for a cosmetic refresh and confirm a clean VAT and ownership trail.
Ask for documentary proof of EU-VAT-paid status — the original VAT invoice, a T2L, or equivalent. A used yacht sold between private parties is usually outside the scope of new VAT, but an unpaid liability transfers with the vessel, so verify before you sign. Missing proof is grounds to walk or renegotiate. Take qualified maritime tax advice for non-resident or cross-border purchases.
Typically six to ten weeks from accepted offer to closing — survey and sea trial (one to two weeks), legal due diligence and contract (two to three weeks), and payment, registration transfer and any flag change (two to six weeks). Cash buyers without a flag change can close faster; finance and cross-border structures add time.
