Multi-award-winning mid-size power catamaran. In production from 2017 to 2020. With 2,000L fuel and Volvo IPS pod drives, capable of 2,000nm range — genuinely long-range cruising.
The MY 44 entered production in 2017 as Fountaine Pajot's mid-size Motor Yacht, debuting at the Düsseldorf Boat Show. Designed by Daniel Andrieu with Pierangelo Andreani interiors, the MY 44 was a multiple award winner that established FP as a serious player in the production powercat market.
What made the MY 44 distinctive was the Volvo IPS pod drive system combined with substantial tankage — 2,000L fuel standard. This combination delivered roughly 2,000 nautical mile range at economical cruising speeds, putting the MY 44 in genuine long-range territory rather than the coastal-cruiser bracket of the smaller MY 37. The IPS pods also delivered joystick close-quarters manoeuvring that was transformative for owners coming from shaft-drive boats.
Production ran 2017–2020, with the MY5 (2021) replacing the MY 44 with a slightly smaller, more accessible boat. On the resale market in 2026, MY 44 inventory is small but stable — most are in private ownership, with charter use rare. The boat's sweet spot is the long-range cruising couple or small family who prioritise efficiency, comfort, and serious distance capability over speed.
Specifications are manufacturer figures for a base specification MY 44. Individual boats vary based on year, equipment, and owner modifications. Always verify against the specific boat's documentation during survey.
The MY 44 is offered in multiple layouts. Choosing between them is the most important decision in a MY 44 purchase, and meaningfully affects price, resale, and how the boat actually lives.
The MY 44 was sold in a single 3-cabin layout with three heads. The starboard hull contains a full-beam owner suite with island queen berth, ensuite head, and significant storage. The port hull contains two guest cabins. The 20m² saloon and 15m² master suite are designed to feel like a much larger boat. Volvo IPS500 standard, IPS600 optional.
Unlike FP's sailing range, the MY 44 was not offered in a charter-specific layout. The boat's positioning was strictly owner-cruiser — most MY 44s come from private ownership rather than charter rotation, with consequently lower hours and better-maintained condition.

Indicative 2026 ranges for the MY 44 across condition, year, and layout. Country of sale also affects pricing — Italian and French inventory typically lists 5 to 15 percent above Spanish or Greek equivalents.

Browse all Fountaine Pajots →IPS pods need specific service every 200–300 hours plus annual checks. Pod replacement is significant — €30,000–€50,000 per side if required. Verify pod service history meticulously.
MY 44s in private ownership typically show 800–2,500 hours by year 5–8. Volvo IPS500/600 engines are robust but service-dependent. Demand full Volvo service records.
Powercats see harder use under power. Inspect the bottom carefully for stress around engine mounts, IPS pod attachment points, and hull-deck joint. Any prior groundings need professional assessment.
MY 44's wraparound glazing is signature but requires seal maintenance. UV degradation after 6–8 years is common; replacement is €2,500–€5,000 per panel.
MY 44s with serious cruising history often have substantial equipment additions — generators, watermakers, satellite communications, hydraulic anchor windlasses. Verify each system's age, service status, and certification.
2017–2020 era electronics are mid-life. Verify chartplotter, AIS, and autopilot condition. Full refit budget is €8,000–€18,000 if needed.
Used MY 44 prices typically range from €480k for an early 2017–2018 IPS500 example, up to €890k for a 2019–2020 IPS600 model with recent major refit. The MY 44's strong reputation and limited production volume keep used pricing firm.
No — the MY 44 was discontinued in 2020 and replaced by the MY5 (2021–2025), itself now also discontinued. All MY 44s on the market are used.
With 2,000 litres of fuel standard and Volvo IPS pod drives at economical cruising speeds (typically 8–10 knots), the MY 44 has a documented range of approximately 2,000 nautical miles on a single tank. This puts it in genuine long-range cruising territory.
With Volvo IPS500, cruising speed is 18–22 knots and top speed is approximately 24 knots. With IPS600 upgrade, cruising speed rises to 22–26 knots with top speed around 28 knots. Fuel consumption at 22-knot cruise is approximately 90–110 L/h.
Yes — at slow cruising speed (8–10 knots), the MY 44's 2,000nm range makes Atlantic crossings practical. Several MY 44 owners have completed long-distance ocean cruising including transatlantic passages.
The MY5 (2021–2025) is the MY 44's spiritual successor with a smaller hull, flybridge layout, and lower fuel capacity (1,400L vs 2,000L). For dedicated distance cruisers, the MY 44 remains the better boat; for coastal cruising and entertainment, the MY5 is more flexible.
